NRA Basic CCW

Event Details

Course Goal: Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense.

  1. Provide a brief overview of the course goals and requirements at the beginning of the text to give readers a better understanding of what to expect from the NRA Basic CCW course. This will help potential students decide if the course is right for them before they invest time and money in registration.

This course gives you direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end and will be conducted in a classroom and on a shooting range.

  1. Offer more detailed information about the live fire training and shooting qualification, including what types of scenarios students will be expected to complete and how they will be evaluated. This will help potential students better prepare for the course and increase their chances of passing the qualification on the first attempt.

NRA CCW takes place in a traditional classroom and range environment. This course may be completed in a single day.

Course topics include:

  • Firearm Safety
  • Pistol Nomenclature and Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense
  •  Basic Defensive Pistol Skills
  • Drawing from Concealment
  •  Loading and Stoppage Remediation
  •  Mindset, Carry Modes
  •  Pistol Concealment
  •  Sport Shooting and Training Activities.

The instructor determines the course length to meet the course objectives.

Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor.  Each stage of the Shooting Qualification will be carefully explained and demonstrated as necessary in order that the student understands how to accomplish the objective of practicing purposely.  This will lead to confidence in themselves, and their ability to avoid if possible, and prevail in a self-defense episode.

Students will receive reference books, take an NRA CCW Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.

The NRA Basic Pistol Certification Is Required to enroll in this class. I will consider Equivalent training on a case-by-case basis which may require pre-qualification on the range, at an additional charge.

You will need a handgun suitable for self-defense (9mm or larger,) a Kydex, or a leather holster with or without a retention device. Serpa-type holsters may not be used in this class. You will also need three magazines or more and a magazine pouch for at least one extra magazine.

This course will require 100 rounds of ammunition. We prefer you have 200 rounds for class. You may need to shoot the qualification more than once to qualify.
